Benefits of Circumcision for Health

Circumcision or circumcision does not affect fertility or reduce sexual pleasure of men and their partners. In fact, circumcision or in medical language is called circumcision, has several benefits such as protection from sexually transmitted diseases and urinary tract infections. Circumcision is the process of removing the foreskin or skin that covers the tip of the penis. Circumcision can be done with the usual surgical method or even with laser circumcision. Circumcision or circumcision can be done a day or two after your child is born. In Indonesia, this process is generally carried out when a boy attends elementary school. What is clear, the older the boy or circumcised male, the greater the risk and complexity.

Why Need Circumcision?

From the medical side, there are many benefits that can be obtained by people who undergo the process of circumcision, namely:
  • Circumcision reduces the risk of infection with sexually transmitted diseases such as human papilloma virus (HPV) and sexually transmitted diseases such as herpes or syphilis. However, men who have undergone circumcision must continue to have sexual relations that are healthy and safe.
  • Preventing diseases of the penis such as pain in the head or foreskin of the penis called phimosis. This is a condition when the uncircumcised penis foreskin is difficult to pull. This condition can cause inflammation of the head of the penis called balanitis.
  • Reducing the risk of urinary tract infections which can refer to kidney problems. This infection is generally more common in people who do not undergo circumcision.
  • Reducing the risk of penile cancer.
  • Reducing the risk of cervical cancer in couples. The risk of cervical cancer decreases in women whose partners have undergone the circumcision procedure.
  • Make penis health more awake. A circumcised penis is easier to clean, so that its health is more guaranteed than uncircumcised.

Treatment after circumcision

If circumcision is completed, avoid doing strenuous activities such as weight training, diving, jogging, or motor racing. There are a number of things that should be and are recommended to be noticed by people who have just been circumcised so that the wound heals quickly, namely:
  • After circumcision, the penis will generally be red, bruised, and swollen. Circumcision in infants requires about 10 days to heal. While injuries to children and adult men, need about a month to heal.
  • Recovery after circumcision will be more comfortable if the patient is not wearing panties and is wearing loose pants or a sarong. You also use petroleum jelly on the tip of the penis after circumcision to prevent the penis from sticking to the pants.
  • Routine control to the doctor to treat wounds. Always make sure genital hygiene is maintained to avoid infection. You can take a shower after the doctor permits it, but avoid bathing.
  • Patients can take pain medication to reduce pain. But make sure children under 16 take paracetamol or ibuprofen, and aspirin is prohibited from giving them. Giving antibiotics if needed.
  • Until the pain subsides, the circumcised child is not encouraged to ride a bicycle or similar toy.
  • Adult men who perform circumcision are not recommended for sexual intercourse until the wound is fully healed. Usually around 4-6 weeks.

Risk of Circumcision

Although beneficial for health, circumcision still carries risks like other surgical processes. Side effects can be:
  • Bleeding.
  • Infection of the circumcision wound.
  • Urinary tract disorders.
  • The foreskin may be cut too short or too long.
  • The remaining foreskin can stick back to the tip of the penis so it needs a small operation as a treatment.
  • The sensitivity of the circumcised penis is reduced, so that it can affect sexual relations.
  • Circumcision can be a dangerous action if applied to patients with blood clotting disorders.
It is recommended that you immediately see a doctor or go to the emergency department at the nearest hospital if, after circumcision, the following things happen to you or your baby:
  • Bleeding does not stop.
  • From the tip of the penis comes out festering or foul smelling liquid.
  • Twelve hours after being circumcised, urine cannot come out normally.
  • Until a few days after circumcision, the process of urinating is still painful.
  • After two weeks, the penis is still swollen.
  • Fever.
Circumcision or circumcision performed immediately after birth, waiting until school, or not circumcised at all, all return to their respective opinions. Importantly, discuss in advance with a specialist if you have doubts or questions about this procedure.
